January 6, 2006. Vanua Levu, Fiji. Looking down from the plane to Taveuni at Rainbow Reef off southeast Vanua Levu. The town at middle right is Dakuniba. The island just offshore on the north side is Kioa, which is occupied by people from Vaitupu Island in Tuvalu, who moved there in 1946 due to overpopulation. The island barely visible beyond it is Rabi, occupied by the former residents of Banaba in Kiribati, which was mined for phosphate.
